13teen

It's Friday the 13th.

Some say it's lucky others say it's unlucky.... I searched it's history...there's nothing to be afraid of really.

I like 13... since it's pretty much my birthdate.

If only there would be a 13th month.... I'd name it Elaramber.

Why Elaramber? Hehe. Find out yourself... and you would win a trip to Timbuktu. Hehe. *ok-i'm-only-joking*

Random 13 Little bits of Trivia

  1. The tune for the "A-B-C" song is the same as "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." - *I'm sure most of you knows this by now...*
  2. The nursery rhyme Ring Around the Rosey is a rhyme about the plague. Infected people with the plague would get red circular sores ("Ring around the rosey..."), these sores would smell very badly so common folks would put flowers on their bodies somewhere (inconspicuously), so that it would cover the smell of the sores ("...a pocket full of posies..."), People who died from the plague would be burned so as to reduce the possible spread of the disease ("...ashes, ashes, we all fall down!")
  3. In Disney's "Fantasia", the Sorcerer's name is "Yensid" (Disney backwards.)
  4. M&M's stands for the last names of Forrest Mars, Sr., then candymaker, and his associate Bruce Murrie.
  5. Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain was born on a day in 1835 when Haley's Comet came into veiw. When He died in 1910, Haley's Comet came into view again. In 1909, Twain is quoted as saying:
I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't go out with Halley's Comet. The Almighty has said, no doubt: 'Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together. from: Wikipedia
  6. The original story from Tales of 1001 Arabian Nights begins, "Aladdin was a little Chinese boy."
  7. When a film is in production, the last shot of the day is the "martini shot".
  8. It is a misdemeanor to kill or threaten a butterfly, says City Ordinance No. 352 in Pacific Grove, California.
  9. Only 1/3 of the people that can twitch their ears can twitch only one at a time. - *Well, I'm not the 1/3, I can only twitch my ears but not one at a time.*
  10. "Speak of the Devil" is short for "Speak of the Devil and he shall come". It was believed that if you spoke about the Devil it would attract his attention. That's why when your talking about someone and they show up people say "Speak of the Devil"
  11. Mickey Mouse is known as "Topolino" in Italy, and "Musse Pigg" in Swedish.
  12. Originally there were 24 stars in the Paramount Logo but it was later reduced into 22.
  13. Rondeau is a poem with 13 lines.
The best poem in Rondeau is the World War I poem, In Flanders Fields, by John McCrae:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Great 13 facts for this Friday the 13th Tina. I learned a few cool things, you should join thursday 13 hehe... and that poem, I didn't realize it was a rondeau, I've heard it every Nov 11 since I was in kindergarten and have had to memorize it a couple of times... I always forget except for the first line. In Canada we wear poppies starting Nov 1 then we lay them down on the cenitaphs and tombs of the war dead on Nov 11, to honour their sacrifice....

Happy Friday the 13th!

woohoo! way cool trivias!!
m/

okay, first of all, 13 is one of my favorite numbers.
because, I was section 13 during my First Year. And that section is one part of my life I'll never forget!

(Oh, and I'm not really dumb to be that far in section. There's no ranking in sections in our school. And the first Freshman section starts from Section 10 up to Section 15. There aren't 13+ sections, there were only 6)

AND...

Like that way cool trivia with the Halley's Comet,

Pope John Paul II, one of the idols of my life, was born when a solar eclipse took place.

During his funeral, a solar eclipse also took place. =]

Gravatar Ooh, and if ever the calendar inserts a 13th month.. why don't we call it Mikko's Month, instead of the -ber stuff. HAHA.

November -- December -- Mikko's Month -- January

Fridays are hailed as a particularly significant day in the Christian tradition. Obviously, there is Good Friday, the day Jesus Christ was crucified. But according to Christian lore, Adam and Eve also supposedly ate the forbidden fruit on a Friday, the Great Flood started on a Friday, the builders of the Tower of Babel were tongue-tied on a Friday and the Temple of Solomon was destroyed on a Friday.

In addition to the legendary significance of Fridays, the sixth day of the week also was execution day in ancient Rome and later Hangman’s Day in Britain.

Both the Hindus and Vikings reportedly had a myth in which 12 gods were invited to a gathering and Loki, the god of mischief, crashed the party and incited a riot. Tradition in both cultures holds that 13 people at a dinner party is bad luck and will end in the death of the party-goers.
Following in that vein, the Last Supper in Christian tradition hosted 13 people and one betrayed Christ, resulting in the crucifixion.
The number 13 also has been associated with death in other cultures. The ancient Egyptians, for example, believed life unfolded in 12 stages, and the 13th stage was death.
Finally the number 13 may have an unlucky connotation because of its association with the lunar calendar (there are 13 lunar cycles in a year) and with femininity (women have 13 menstrual cycles in a year).
