What's the Rave?

Hulloh! How is everybody doing?

I've noticed that it seems like I am making a career out of posting a blogpost once a month!

My days are sometimes swarmed with activities that sometimes I just wanna head off the beach and go enjoy the waves while reading a book.

Last weekend, I attended the District Assembly of Rotaractors and Interactors here in Davao for District 3860. It went well. It's great that they invited Ms. Joji Ilagan Bian to be the guest speaker which proved to be very inspiring among students which composed a majority of the audience.

The recently concluded pre-Kadayawan event "Cycle For Life" and the "Dream Davao" exhibit at People's Park went well. Although with so little time to plan a week-long event we fell short of our expectations. Meaning there were more "something could've worked better" ideas than what we did. But, despite the many "firsts" and recent "learnings", one thing we gained at the event was having the bond. of just having known each other for a month to come together for a specific purpose of calling various individuals and organizations who wants to make Davao better. oh di ba? diretso field.

Photo: Sorry don't know who took this picture. Pls. contact me lang if this is yours and ill place the credit. thanks.

For RACMPD (Rotaract Club of Munting Pag-Asa Davao), we also had our first ever fundraising bazaar during Kadayawan. We were selling baked goodies and all proceeds will go to our club and mostly to support Kythe Foundation*.

But, Tina, you might ask... all work and no play? Of course not!

In between the busy-ness of many "for the world" events..... I managed to meet up with my College Buds and High School Chums....in between the events I am in (i invite them!) and also having separate get-togethers...

one during the birthday of my godson to which i am the fairy godmama! HAHAHA. and one of our friend is pregggy!!! another godson in the making. Vavavroooom!!

also our high school chum meet-up was simply that.... get together to talk about what's up with our own lives...

How about family??? Sometimes I managed to stay at home one day after the event... and sometimes i'd drag my brother and sister to help me out in the booth which they are supporting me with....and i'd help out with dad and mom with their recent garden... which i will post pictures of soon... :)

it's September.... and more life-changing events which i will impart soon!

*Kythe Foundation - foundation for cancer patient kids.

With so much love,

Tina

P.S. HAPPPYYYY BIRTHDAY To my beloved Aunt... Aunt Tita!!!!!!!LOVE YOU!!!! She reads my blog.... most of the time. :)

Golden Earth Hour.

Today marks a special day... not only because it is Earth Hour, a cause we have been actively participating on for three years with the world.

Tonight we will do it early. So, it will be more than an hour. We will have a candlelight dinner... to make way for the golden.. jubilee celebration of my mom's birthday. Although, she'd prefer a SILVER FOREVER theme.

To my mom..... ahhh words are not enough...... basta my heart is filled with her love. Although... we can be considered as arch enemies here at home. Hehehe. With our constant arguing.. and all that.

To my mom who hates surprises.... but we try... hahaha. but she ends up surprising us... during our birthdays. Grabe.

And of course it is also my parent's 27th Wedding Anniversary!

So yeah..... it's a wonderful event for our family today....

a celebration of a wonderful golden life..... lived by my mom...

a celebration of a love that would last a lifetime....

and a celebration of our light to the world....... (Earth Hour)... letting it shine.....

for Life, Love and Light...... may it live forever. =)

Surf, Sand, Fire and Party

Photo: (Taken at Botona Beach Resort, it's the whole stretch of Dahican Beach in Mati. Kanakbai Beach Resort is on the other side).

Hi guys!

This year, I had one of the best birthday (every year.. it's always BEST for me!). I was out of town, with my childhood friends whom I considered as real brothers and sisters. We went out for Maranatha's debut.

From L-R: Darlene, Ate Jill, Me, Cris, Paolo H., and Walter at Kanakbai Beach Resort, Dahican (Mati)

We took off early in the morning, and my sister and I got around to helping the "decorators" of the venue who happened to be my childhood friends. Everyone (including us) was a bit groogy, because we all slept late or didn't sleep at all the night before since we all have to do last minute stuffs. (I was the one in charge for our surprise video presentation).

It was all crazy, really... we finished late with the decoration because we thought there were locals who would help us with the decoration, but no help came and if there was ever one... they came in late na rin. And we went to the party with no make up at all because there was only one bathroom and the party was about to start. The venue and the accommodation of the guests is like a 5-8 minutes ride.

Photo: (us with the debutante... like a fairy doll).

Anyway, despite all that.... it was arguably FUN! The debutante was the star of the night... unlike the usual (princessy debut which I had), it was fairly-like and of course hawaiian. She was the only one who was allowed to wear white. One thing I enjoyed was the "fire dance" and the hawaiian dance by the debutante and her mother at the last part. :)

that was February 13.... and it was also my birthday...

I told everyone to forget my birthday and give the day to Maranatha. And everyone was pretty accommodating. But, when the party ended and the debutante was entertaining the rest of her guests at Botona where we were all housed, everyone sang a "happy birthday" to me. *how sweet of them*

That night, was one of the best nights because I saw the diamond glittered star-filled sky. It was like a blanket of stars and I was barefoot with the sound of the waves and the wind howling at the background and the air was it's usual refreshing self. *swoons* Could this get any better? Too bad, I don't have pictures of the star-filled blanket of a sky.... it will forever be in my mind though. -_- *i have simple delights! just gimme nature.. and id be beaming with joy*

That night, we were good girls and boys... all we had was cake and coke. Bread breaking, eh? The modern way. Haha. :)

We just talked underneath the sky and with the sound of the waves lulling us to sleep. We slept around 3 in the morning like sardines because of the limited rooms.
There was like 13 of us in the room. It was crazy. :)

Photo: Don't mind the eyebags, please... -_-

Some of us woke up around 5-6am to scout for the surfer dudes to give us surfing lessons. And came the best "Valentine's everrrrrr". We talked to the guys from "Amihan sa Dahican". They were a nice lot. Too bad, I wasn't able to try the surfing.. I had the tide. Get my drift, please. The beach was bare save, for us. Perfect for beginners to surf. :)

I fell in love watching them surf. It made me want to go back to Dahican.

By the way, they have an upcoming Skim Competition this April. You can search them on Facebook and add them: Amihan Sa Dahican, for more information regarding their competition. You can also donate something for the said competition. :)

It was a good memory... and yes... I can't wait to go back to Dahican... I discovered a lovely place 3 hours away from Davao... =)

Surfing photos on my other post na lang.... :)

I know this is late... but how was your Valentine's? Or Chinese New Year? :)

Red Cross

Kuya Denz just had a dream last Monday. He said he dreamed of seeing our car (sorrento) with a Red Cross at the back.

And just like some peculiar event, a dream and it is suddenly real we spent two days in and out of two hospitals.

Feb.13: We went to visit our relative who gave birth to a not-fully-developed child who died after childbirth. It was the daughter-in-law of my Mom's Aunt who sent her to school and so we owe as much to her and right now they need all the support they can get. With us, was my Aunt Emee, Uncle Boy and Ate Precious, my nurse cousin who took a 3day leave and just in time to help out. It's amazing how God plans the support team and everything is done with smooth perfection.

We also visited a relative who stayed one month in the hospital and was in a motorcyle accident.

It was Heart's Day. And early in the morning I rushed out to go to the hospital and assist our relative whose child just died. The Red Cross at our car's back was prolly meant for the dead child, because the child was placed there when the body was released.

Later in the night we also visited our cute cousin Luis at Mission Hospital. He was also confined there last night because he kept vomiting whenever he gets to eat something. I think they were released yesterday.

and so I guess that just summed up my birthday and Valentine's.

Have a great Weekend!

A Question

There are so many questions in life that needs to be answered and so many "why's?" and "what if's?". But, we often disregard those questions all because we feared questioning or we feared the answers themselves.

I don't like to ask "Why?". It's something I got from school. Asking somehow makes someone look dumb. Asking, means you did not make your homework. I know, I know we don't all think that "asking" is dumb. In fact my mom always reminds me that "If you question a lot of things, you get many answers. Maraming tanong, Maraming alam". But, you see during those times I couldn't get the drift. I learned to just sit still and listen to the teacher drone on and on about History, Science, Math, Religion, you name all the subjects.

But, of course there is a point in your life where you get to undo those habits. And that habit of just sitting back and not to question about anything that involves life are one of those habits.

All questions have their own answers. And no one question are unanswered. "But those answers are not constant", Einstein would say to you. Just like "humans", Answers have a tendency to change as we go along.

And so, if you have a question always "ASK" and never dismiss it like I used to do. Ask. Ask. Ask like a kid. The answers may not come right away. The answers might come to different forms, like a book you are reading, a line from the movie you just watched, a friend you bumped into, a billboard sign, and even from nature itself.

"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves." - Rainer Maria Rilke.

Wait. Live your questions. Then ask. Be open to the changes that the answers would bring forth. Answers to our questions will come. It won't always come from one person, because no one person has all the answers.

Remember: The only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

Ask and it shall be given, Seek and you shall find, Knock and it shall be opened.

Kindness

Kindness plays a very important role in our society nowadays. That's why in everything that I do I try to incorporate "kindness" in my life and I also try to infect other people.

We are inherently kind. But to practice kindness to people we meet everyday specially to ones we don't personally know is kind of rare nowadays.

Last October 13 was a special day for Ate Jireh. She decided to spend her birthday *actually her birthday was on Oct. 17* to kids at a "Drop-In Center" located in San Pedro Street, Davao City.

Knowing her plans, I decided to help out and she agreed. I talked to people in the office and they are thrilled & "inspired" by the idea, they in turn asked if they can also help out and join.

It was a fun day for everyone. We introduced each other and then played a few games. Ate Jireh, me, kids and company were all having fun. It was a bit awkward at the beginning but we got the hang of it in the end.

It's great to bring joy and show kindness to kids. Seeing them so happy and excited.

Thank you Ate Ji for inspiring us and for sharing the experience with us. :)

Have a great week!

Tis the Season

This month climbed so fast. As soon as it arrived it would soon disappear and we would greet a whole NEW YEAR.

Time flies so fast. Is it just me or what?

Einstein has this "Theory of Relativity" where time moves according to what you are doing.

I learned so many things this year. I'd probably recount it by the last day of this year like what I did with last year's firsts.

I have so many things I want to do right now:

  • clean my room (yes. AGAIN. it clutters up right after I clean it)
  • redesign my planner for next year.
  • print all the photos of this year. They are piling up already. I need to place it on my journal and my desire notebook.
  • start my "SCRAP BOOK".
  • read more books. my to-reads are piling up.
  • watch my must-see-movies. Hehe. at least let me have the luxury sometimes.

I finally saw Mayor Rodrigo Duterte at work. I heard his "words" which he is famous with live last week.

I have so many tags in my draft I'd do two or more this time.

This one from Dimaks:

This tag requires the following steps:
  1. Go to Wikipedia and type in your birthday (month and day).
  2. Write down three events, 2 births, 1 holiday and tag 5 friends.
  3. There are five slots in the Birthday Meme. As you are tagged, you have to remove the name in the first slot and bump everyone up so that your name can be added to the bottom.

February 13

3 events:

2 births:

1 holiday (liturgical feast):

The list:

There were a lot of events during Feb.13 the challenge was to choose just (3) three. So, I chose what seemed appealing to me. Knights always rings a bell to me and so I decided to place that event here. I salute "feminine energy" as a balance to "masculine energy", so I included that feminist newspaper. I am fascinated with diamonds (just fascinated) and it's also just recent.

The only two familiar names in the birth list. Hehe.

a Bash

Nov. 24 - Yhe.

I went with my sister (darlene) and big bro (Kuya Dave) to Yhe's debut. It was held in a restobar and it was closed just for her. Wow. eksklusib ai.

We were the "early birds". So we went upstairs (since it's open air) and you get to see everyone who will arrive. The moon was just shining behind us - and it was full.

It's been months since everyone got together. The "Firstborns" I mean. Most are in college already and very unreachable. Or not everyone tries hard to reach each other because everyone has his/her own life and very busy. We had a fun time updating each other about a lot of things.

I absolutely love Yhe's gown which was designed by Ate Jill and for some unknown reason wasn't in the party.

I like her concept. She actually gave tribute to people in her life, which made me (I can't say all) teary-eyed.

Nov. 26 - meeting Uso

I never really had a thing for dogs. Yes, they are cute and all.... but to actually imagine raising up a pet needs a lot of things - dedication + responsibility.

Uso is this big "Alaskan Husky Wolf". Whenever he is on a street everyone would inch away from him. That was my first impression as well. It is quite unusual to see one on these parts and so he became the "talk of the street".

But, his aura is just so different. He actually looks adorable. He is still in his 2 years. :)

Basta if ever I would want to have a pet... it would be one like Uso. Hehe. :)

I reckon, he is not an easy dog to handle. His fur coat and size screams "high maintenance". His house needs to be air-conditioned because of his fur. He needs to eat a lot. If he goes hungry he might eat you. (at least that's what I heard)

I remember 8 Below if I saw Uso makes me teary eyed once again. T_T

Thank you to Richard of Pulse Circle for including me and giving me the "You're an Amazing Blogger" award. thank you. thank you.

Road Show - Push, Drive, Explode

The return of the come back! wooo...

Thank you for all the graduation greetings.. thank you pam for -> THIS.

Ate Ann hit it right with her comment that says "Congrats! San ka pupunta? Out of town again?".

As soon as I graduated I hopped on a plane the next day (October 16) and left Davao for 23 days! gooseneck! The longest time me and my mom were away with the whole family. But, it's all for a good cause. :)

I missed a lot of things while I was away. I missed to attend the Road Show that was conducted here in Davao which I wanted sooo much to attend since we will present our production number last October 18. But I had to choose in serving (lovingly) my mom and be her Personal Assistant(Alalay wahaha) while we are in Luzon specifically the South.

I missed the Birthday of my business partner/great friend/blogger Ate Jireh last October 17 but at least I got to celebrate her birthday bash which I will recount one of these days last October 13.

I missed the Blogger's Summit last October 27!!!! One of the biggest events in the blogging society this year! Booooo! I apologize for not being there.... I was really hoping I can come back right away. T_T.

I missed Giovanne's birthday last October 31. Yes, It's Halloween. I also missed my plans to sell our product wearing my uber-outrageous-butterfly costume, just for laughs. I wonder if I could do it next year... Hehe.

I missed Ate Disay and Avy's birthday last November 6, 2007. I was monitoring their birthday... and when 6 came by... I forgot it was November 6.. for crying out loud. And I did not get to greet the two of them ON TIME. Pretty close pa naman sila to me..... SORRRY AVYYYY!!! I really really owe you big time! Kaon na lang ta pizza haaaa??????

For things I missed there is of course a "seed of equivalent benefit"....

We went to Lucena City from the airport to prepare for the two(2) day training. :)

I enjoyed the crowd here. :)

By October 19... we had the first ever Diamond Convention held at Trader's Hotel. It also seemed like a whole day event. This was coordinated by the EDC.

October 20 was our 8th Anniversary and we held it at Cuneta Astrodome. :)

The Alabang crowd is a different crowd but nevertheless their responses to my mom's training were all good.

I guess different places calls for different people... and so Laguna was a different batch altogether. I enjoyed their company by the way...

The males in the Cavite Group are more dominant than the female. This group has less questions compared to Lucena, Laguna and Alabang.

Miss Honey said my mom's presentation in Batangas is her favorite.

The last two(2) trainings Masinag and Cainta was not part of the schedule but nevertheless my mom accepted it because she was requested.

My mom took a long time to lay down all the details in Masinag since the group is pretty not used to "responding" during trainings. She was having a hard time getting answers from them because they don't respond. In the end, they were at least able to let their feelings out.

If my mom had a hard time in Masinag, Cainta on the other hand was pretty easy. This group is basically aware and their comprehension is fast and they respond whenever they are asked.

All in all I met different people and I have seen the "I-am-alive-ill-live-it-this-way" look from them after the trainings. They all inspire me.... to reach out and help people get what they want. I gave a short speech by the end of the session in Lucena (because they asked me.. cant refuse them), Laguna (I was asked by Miss Honey.. cant refuse once again), Masinag (my mom asked me... how can i refuse?) and in Cainta (because the group asked me too).

I am enjoying what I am doing now, because i get to HELP PEOPLE who WANTS TO HELP THEMSELVES. In the trainings, you rarely find people who don't want to be helped because my mom's training has limited slots and so you have "to fight your way in" and those who attended were not forced but are willing. It's better that way than forcing someone to join a training.

I missed all your blogs!! Super! So I'll be blog hopping in a few while.

The Choice

"The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live"

How was your day???

You get to choose how you start your day despite the circumstances.

You get to choose to enjoy waking up with a smile despite the heat and noise or choose to be annoyed with how your day started.

You ride a jeepney and chanced upon a passenger who is annoying you to bits you can either choose to divert your attention to something other than the passenger or stay annoyed deep inside.

You get to college and knew about the change in the schedule, you can choose to complain or you can choose to accept it.

or if you are working your boss suddenly announces you to be transferred, you can choose to be excited with the change or fear what happens.

A colleague gets into your nerves, you can choose to react or choose to just smile and understand the person.

A friend asks you to go to lunch to meet his/her friends, you can choose to decline or choose to meet new friends.

When you ride a taxi and happened to chance upon an "angry driver", you can choose to ignore it or choose to react once again.

or if you are driving and another car cuts you off, you can chase that car and throw dagger-like looks at the driver when you catch up or just remain calm and understand.

You can always choose what type of day it is today. Is it a good one or a bad one? When you decide to choose how to feel and respond in every given situation, it may seem insignificant but when you look at the big picture it sums your day. In these cases, we know there are no right or wrongs just "simple choices".

The
hidden secret of life is that we are a PRODUCT of the simple decisions we make each time.

Do you ever wonder that if we turned right instead of left we could have been a different person? We could have been happier , despite of everything that goes along our way.

Each day we make choices, consciously or unconsciously. We can either choose to be happy, respond, accept, change, improve, offer a smile, say hello, be generous and be every bit of a kind person deep within or we can choose to be sad, react, resist changes, ignore happiness, be grumpy and angry.

So, what type of day is it today?

The choice is up to you!

Last Days of Summer

Mom promised us to watch Pirates of the Carribean 3: At World's End and so we did last Saturday (May 26). Review @ Espresso Break.

May 27 - A summer won't be complete if one does not head to the beach even just once. And so, we asked our parents to at least treat us for a beach outing. We went to a very known resort in Samal Island which is Paradise Island. It was crowded and I figured it was because of the cars parked in Davao plus it is a Sunday. Their boat ride improved. They already have an announcement in English probably designed for tourists. ( Starvation Heights(the book), Buko Juice and Kiamoy!)

One thing I like there was their food and of course the cottages they have for you to sleep on and read a good book. Davao sure seems like a small place, I met high school classmates and a couple of familiar faces. We weren't able to get a cottage to stay overnight because it was fully-booked which was O.K. and it kinda forced me to go take a dip (because I don't usually swim like I do when I was a kid. I only go to beaches to read and eat. Muwahaha. adik talaga). It was nice that I decided to swim (never mind the tan!) because I got to feed big fishes! Wooohoo. They have this place where you can feed and swim at the same time..

Oh and by the way, I would like to greet Chaya dear a Happy Birthday. She is in Kenya now and we rarely get our hi's and hello's nowadays. Happy Birthday!!! Missss youuu!

from L-R: Ate Kai, Me, Abigail, Yehyeh and Darlene

The next day(Monday, May 28), Yehyeh invited us over at her place for her slumber party. She invited us ever since the start of summer, either it gets canceled or something comes up making one unable to come. We watched 3 movies, The Illusionist, and to my horror Saw II and Arahan. It took us a long time to start our movie-watching because we were so busy slicing up the cake and laughing over a couple of things.

Yesterday(May 29), we left Yehyeh's place and headed home by 3pm.

I was asked to attend a seminar called "Survival Rate for Stage 4 and Terminal Cancer Patients Using U.S. FDA Approved Alternative Therapies" hosted by PCAM (Philippine College for the Advancement in Medicine and IIPA (International Iridology Practitioners Association) which I am part of.

Our lecturer Professor Xu Kecheng M.D. came from China and leads a hospital named Fudo Cancer Hospital at Guangzhou. Mostly, people who go there from different parts of the world are people who were rejected by other doctors. Amazingly, Professor Xu's Fuda hospital obtains a 70% long-time survival rate for Stage 4 and terminal cancer patients. In fact, one of his patients is a prominent Filipino with a liver cancer and he is not telling his name which is O.K.

The hospital gives you a choice whether you would want to undergo surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy or not. Most doctors would suggest you to undergo chemo for there are no other choice they say and basically I don't think chemo is healthy and I would not recommend other people to do it. The survival rate of Chemo is low and people who went under it usually survives for 4 months *(depends on the stage and the will to live)*.

I like Fudo's concept which is: "Appreciate Life and Never Give Up". They never give up on their patients and they always try hard to give them treatment. Their method is a mix of High Technology and Traditional Chinese Medicine which is pretty good. They believe in integration.

So, what are their treatments? Their main treatment is Cryosurgery. Yes, it is surgery still but it is a NON-invasive treatment. They simply freeze the tumor and take it out. They have other treatments as well like Photodynamic Therapy and Immuno Therapy.

Fuda is well staffed with 40 MD's and 60 nurses. Of the doctors, 37 are trained in Western medicine and 3 in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Fuda has 80 PRIVATE rooms with 2 beds each, one for the patient and the other for a companion (the bed for the companion, they say is much more comfortable than the patient). It has 100 wards with 150 beds. Fuda is in Guangzhou, very near Manila which only takes 2 hours to reach there.

Basically, Fuda only treats patients with tumor. They don't treat leukemia, since it is entirely different and they can't use cryosurgery for it. For leukemia patients, I suggest you go to a CERTIFIED alternative doctor with a western medicine background and make sure you research them o.k.?

I like the comment of Professor Xu and his translator Miss Lao (yes, he needs a translator which kinda makes the lecture a bit boring...) of Davao. "I think Davao is a nice place and when we were walking I feel safe, the police do their jobs." Was it a sign he is coming back to Davao ? Hehe.

NOTE: Attend Professor Xu's seminar for more information, if one is available over there.

For Cebu City: June 2, 5:30 to 9:30pm. Registration: 100Php. Free for PCAM members. at Cebu Country Club, Gov. M. Cuenco Ave., Banilad, Cebu City.

For health BUFFS out there, I can inform you of upcoming seminars if you want just give me a message and your contact number. (Specially people from Davao, I get updated once in awhile here.) :)

Enjoy the last days of Summerrr!!

Five(5) Natural Emotions - Grief

Before, everything else I would like to greet Tay Ernie a Happy Birthday! :)

Anyway, I will share to you the works of Dr. Elisabeth Kubler Ross who teaches people about the five natural emotions.

Despite the countless emotions going around that made us feel this-way-and-that-way, there are only 5 which are natural.

I will share to you the first and then the next day would be the second and so on and so on.

Grief is a natural emotion. This is the very part of us that allows us to say goodbye whenever we don't want to say goodbye. This is a very natural response to death, separation or loss of a beloved one or a thing.

When one is allowed to express one's grief, one gets rid of it very quickly. Those children who were allowed to cry over losing a toy or being separated from a parent, or those children who were allowed to be sad whenever they feel sad they will feel very healthy about sadness when they grow up, and they usually move through sadness very quickly. They "get over" their sadness right away.

On the other hand, if as a child you were always told to "Hush! Don't cry!", "stop crying..." when you grow up you will have a hard time crying as an adult. (I've met a few people who were like this and you can basically tell whether they were allowed or not to express what they feel when they were young.) Those children who were taught not to cry over "small" things and have been told all their life not to cry will have a hard time moving through sadness. So they usually repress their grief.

If you suppress grief too much, it can well redouble. ~Moliere

Suppressed grief suffocates, it rages within the breast, and is forced to multiply its strength - Ovid

Grief that is continually repressed becomes a chronic depression, a very unnatural emotion.

People have tried to kill themselves(suicide) and have killed other people because of chronic depression.

Credits/Ideas: CWG, and Dr. Elisabeth Kubler Ross, Wikipedia

What should I do?
Tears are the language of grief - Voltaire

He that conceals his grief finds no remedy in it. - Turkish Proverb.
Never ever repress your feeling over losing someone or something. If you felt a need to cry... go cry. If you need to feel sad... be sad. If that's how you feel at the moment, you express it. You don't need to mask your feelings and hide it from anybody.

They say music therapy is good as well. You might as well try it.

I'm not a doctor or anything of the sort, but I don't believe in using "medicines" such as anti-depressants to be effective. It may be at first but in the long run it would have side-effects.

Basically, we all have to go through sadness "naturally" without the use of medicines that manipulates what you feel as of the moment.

And once, you've poured it all out.... all will be well.

Remember, grief is a natural emotion.

We all experience grief..... and we experience it naturally.... and go through it....

There's a good book about dying and grieving: Good Grief: Making Sense of Death, Dying & Funerals by Mark H. Shearon.

Here are some positive quotes I've gathered about grief....

Grief is itself a medicine. ~William Cowper, Charity

We must embrace pain and burn it as fuel for our journey. ~Kenji Miyazawa

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. ~Author Unknown

There are things that we don't want to happen but have to accept, things we don't want to know but have to learn, and people we can't live without but have to let go. ~Author Unknown

Loss is nothing else but change, and change is Nature's delight. ~Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Happiness is beneficial for the body, but it is grief that develops the powers of the mind.

Man, when he does not grieve, hardly exists. ~Antonio Porchia, Voces, 1943,

Triple Treat

Triple Treat day. This calls for a celebration! Wooohoo!! :)

  1. It's my Dad's Birthday. (Yup, in our family we have 3 feb. celebrants me 13, darlene 15, and my dad 18). So, it's like a one week celebration here... and the grand finale would be my dad's birthday... and yeah that's today. Hehe.
  2. It's CHINESE NEW YEAR! So Kung Hei Fat Choi everyone! (Where are my ang pow's?)
  3. Last but not the least... This is my 100th post. Haha. Is it a good omen? Having your 100th post by Chinese New Year haa?
Anyhow, yesterday I had my Thesis 1 FINAL defense. It went well actually, the panelists were not that bad. They did not ask too many questions, they just suggested this and that, and basically those corrections are all about my thesis format which I need to revise again... but nothing too drastic.

I am actually frrreee!! Woohoo. And maybe next next week I will be working on my Thesis 2 which would cover Chapters 4 and 5 of my Thesis book.

Today? There will beee a a couple of visitors. Well, actually a select few. Just some get-together thing and so everyone's busy... and I guess they would call me now and then to help them.

My sister sends her regards to those who greeted her. She has her own blog but she's not updating it. She is soo busy with her Korean/Asian-forums. *rolling my eyes*

Have a great Sunday and KUNG HEI FAT CHOI.

Today is my Incarnation Day. I did not have any plans really. I wanted to do something spontaneous, I just wanna flow this day. My mom kept asking me for about a week about how would I spend it, or whatever but I can't answer her cause I still haven't decided. She keeps asking me what I want, I wanna tell her 'You wouldn't wanna know!'. Hehe.

My sister Darlene and brother Paolo sang Happy Birthday while I was in bed waking me up before they left for school. Soo cute with action. Sweet. I was still in bed for an hour and my mom sang in my bed again. Waking me up, reminding me for our session with Ate Jaq and Kuya Jo a Chiropractor. I had my first Chiro session. Nice. :)

I turned the PC on I was shocked to see my face all over the screen. My sister made me a "Birthday Desktop". That's why she asked me last night how to change the desktop background.

Darl: Ate, How do you change the desktop?
Tina: Why? You wanna change mine? Don't...
Darl: No. It's our IT Exam.
Tina: Oh ok. *shows her how to do it*

Ta-da.

I went to college still pondering on what to do and June, Renel, Avy, Kuya LL, Red and Ced was there greeted me a Happy Bday oh and my teachers too. (Maam Fe, Sir MJ, Maam Yvonne, and Maam Liezyl) I thought there would be a meeting for our Thesis 1 but there was none. I ended up treating the girls(Avy, Renel (yeah she's a girl), June, Jona, and Nessa) for 2 hours at Pizza Hut.

The plan was actually for everyone who "remembered" my birthday. Haha. So those who greeted and was with me got to be there. I went back to college for our 3pm class and there I was with my guy friends and Pearl and they all knew.

I ended treating the 2nd batch(Pearl, Giovanne, JV, Bordz, Red, Ced, and Franco) for Dunkin Donuts eat all you can. I'm not sure, if they'd had enough. Haha. I sent a dozen donuts for the teachers. :) Naw, I'm not a teacher's pet. I just love them (some of them ok?) that's why.

I got calls in between and text messages. All of them my friends from highschool, relatives, and aquaintances. (Aunt Tita(call*dawn*) ,Matet, Angelica(call), Emel, Ate Jill, Ate LJ, Ate Kai, Hannah, Mike(call), Ate Tonet(call), Lola Rosa(call), Aunt Emee(call).)

Just to let you know EVERYONE and I mean ALL OF YOU(online and offline) ... that you ALL MADE MY DAY. The simplest greetings tooo the gifts from the heart are sweet. Thank you Nessa for your advance gift yesterday... that was so sweet.

I'm also celebrating ONE YEAR WITHOUT AN ALLOWANCE. Yeah, when I was 18 my parents placed me on a test to stop giving me my allowance as her financial training (it was a choice between me having to pay college with allowance or parents paying college without an allowance). Tough. But I have to choose the allowance, that's why it made me go to college with 14php in my pocket. Nyahaha.

Anyway, my mom is giving me back my allowance for 6 months(cause she made me stop my burning thingy, that was my main source of cash flow) and then really stop giving me allowance after it. Sooo I'll be having my allowance back tomorrow.

I got four new books (can't help it) and four cakes (picture shows only three) . Holding my fave cake.

2 cakes given by Ate Mayeth, Ate Maricel, Ate Abeth, Ate Alice and Ate Janice

1 from mom. Actually 2. I did not get to take a picture of the 4th one. Hehe

Lovely day to you all. Thanks guys!! :) It was a nice day.. and I'm 19! Woo. I better get used to the age then. Haha. :P I'm at the brink of leaving my teenie yearss...

Shuffled Horoscopes

Last night I was browsing my emails and chanced upon Ana's. A friend of mine. She asked me to prepare some stuff for the debut of her sister (e.g. Invitation and Souvenir) which I accepted. Then, I browsed Friendster clicked the "Read Horoscope". (Which I don't normally do... I mean I think I checked my horoscope in friendster just 3 times all these years)

"Someone will ask you to arrange an event. Go and grab it!"

Well, not exactly the exact same words but basically the meaning is all the same. I was like "Woah! Wait a minute..". I mean I'm not exactly arranging the debut, but it's somehow more like arranging part of it.. you know it's somehow related. Haha. It's fun.

Firstborns

Happy Birthday Pam.

-----------------------------------------------

They adjusted the schedule again, our Departmental Exam would be on Dec. 4 and 5. That means our class officially ends by 6. *sigh* Whatever.

To quote Avy:

They can't give a god damn stable schedule for the exams and other stuff.

Oh well. That's life. So much for being excited and all that. I have a lot of things in my mind lately, and I have a lot to share but so many things... and yet I can't prolly post them all in one entry.

---------------------------------------------------

"To whom much is given, much is required"

My mom would repeat that to me over and over again. In our "family", firstborns have a great responsibility. Firstborns, would reflect the parents themselves. And I am one.

Being a firstborn has a lot of perks. You get to be with your parents wherever they go, or you get to be the first in a lot of things, or you get to join their conversations when they see it fit, and a whole lot more. (You even get included in discussions.) Although, yes the young uns get included most of the time, but usually you have the first-say most of the time.

But then, to whom much is given, much is required. With power comes great responsibility.

Responsible in everything you do, without blaming anyone for it. Since the young-uns are looking up to you and may be following your examples, it is also a part of your responsibility.

It was so fitting when we went to Manila to "cohabitate"(Cohabitation = where we live together under one roof, sleep in one room, do the household chores and learn from each other.) with the rest of the "youth" firstborns from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao (12 of us) last 2002. That was the time Spiderman was released and was seen in theaters worldwide.

You see, in movies you get to learn a lot of things depending on how you respond to that movie. It also depends on what you are currently experiencing right now, in relation to that movie.

So when we saw SpiderMan together, we were totally taken away by the message. "With great power comes great responsibility." It applied to us, and we suddenly felt the light side of it all after seeing the movie.

But of course, the quote above applies to everyone. Whether you are a firstborn or not, it doesn't really matter. Everyone has been given that much(the God-given gift, the resources, the talent, the skills, the wit, etc. and mind you created by His own image and LIKENESS). Not just heroes, or any politician. A father or a mother, a firstborn or the youngest. Everyone has a responsibility, to LIVE their own life. To choose WHO THEY WANT TO BE.

Even Green Goblin knew about the choice.

Green Goblin: Spider-Man. This is why only fools are heroes - because you never know when some lunatic will come along with a sadistic choice. Let die the woman you love... or suffer the little children. Make your choice, Spider-Man, and see how a hero is rewarded.
Spiderman: Don't do it, Goblin.
Green Goblin: We are who we choose to be... now, CHOOSE.

We are indeed who we choose to be. :)

Spiderman, when he asks himself has his own answer of who he is.

Now who are you and Who AM I?

Our last day was spent at Corregidor. :)

What a Day

Yesterday was Avydooby's birthday. I greeted her when I woke up, and she promptly asked me for a gift! Hah! That's Avy! Anyway, she did not know... that everyone was up to something for that day.

The first plan was (I might as well spoil the plans here since it's over) to surprise her at Cindrew's Cafe. A cafe of our classmate Andoy, where everyone plays Dota. So, we told Avy to at least play Dota and I even told her, Andoy might let her play for free as a gift since it is her birthday. Oh dbaaa?

During our first period, Giovanne made his own version of the Happy Birthday song for Avy. And i have to video it using my phone.. but I have to tell you the resolution is not that great. Oh and listen to how Giovanne sang the whole song! Ahh, it would surely make you laugh.

This was his first attempt with everyone trying to interrupt him during the whole song.. and he did not finish because he ended up laughing.

His third and last attempt of the Birthday song. (NOTE: Our teacher went out for awhile... while Giovanne was singing. We were doing our seatwork that time.)

The ending of his own song, and our teacher arrived and reprimanding him, while Avy saying Thank You. :) (The girl "voice" interrupting him when Giovanne ended his song, and everyone went back to business.)

Anyway, June Mae and Nessa changed the plan and thought of surprising Avy during our second period.

You can find out on what Avy thought of our surprise HERE.

Finalmente

Finally! Exams are over and I have a 5 day break(including the Saturday and the Sunday)and classes will be back by Monday. Our break is a bit short, and it's okay since we will be released early for our "Christmas Break". By Dec. 2, our Christmas Break would start. Pretty early huh? *whippeee!* /me jumps around.

There were 2 Birthdays that I have not yet greeted here!
One is for Abigail(who just turned 18 last Oct. 18 but her debut was done Oct.21)
and the other for Giovanne(just turned 19 last Oct. 31).

As usual.. my "birthday banners" for their friendster would not be missing, and so I gave them both the banner they deserve(although it was a bit late..)

Abigail's theme was Jazz... and the color is RED and white. When we arrived at the place.. everyone was either in Red or White.. and we all greeted each other, "Happy Valentine's Day!" jokingly. The band playing the jazzy music was great... and Abigail looked soo elegant. :)

A picture with the debutante. From L-R: Ate Jill, Abigail, Me, Keisha, and my sister Darlene. :)

-----------------------------------------

I just learned that my driving lessons would start tomorrow. I'm nervous. You see, driving is not exactly my thing. /me bites my fingernails. *chatterteeth* bwahaha *laughs nervously*

Happy Halloween pala! Medyo late nga lang.. bwahaha ngayon ko lang nakita to.
