  • Sineskwela - I love Science. :)
  • Okatokat -

Spock

Looking for someone?

Try Spock.com - the best people search on the Web.

Spock launched their private Beta last April 2007 and now they are ready and confident to show you that Spock is not just another website. Spock is a search application that would help you find friends and colleagues. If you join the said website you can build your own search network to look for anyone you know who is on the internet.

So, whenever you search, Spock.com would personalize whatever your results so that they can include information about your friends and colleagues or whoever you were looking for. You can also enhance your search experience even further by establishing a trust relationship with other people who are on Spock. By connecting with trusted contacts you will be able to search within their network to rediscover people you've lost touch with and make new acquaintances through friends.

So, this is basically a social community site and a people search website rolled into one.

Of course, I needed to try it. I signed up and got to use Spock's search engine. And, it's a wow!

You see, you don't just search using the name of your friend, you can search using whatever it is they are currently doing now. And I tried to type in "fashion designer".

http://www.spock.com/q/fashion-designer

And out comes that result (just click the link above).

You can also type in places like say for example "Philippines": (Below you will see a flash widget for the search result).

I am actually having fun during my stay there. Searching for programmers, Bill Gates came first on the line.

One thing good about searching there is that they help you specify your search. If you type in Philippine a lot of specifications would drop down giving you an idea of how to specify it. On the right side there are also some ideas to narrow your search.

They already received industry acclaim and awards from respected technology luminaries. Spock was also selected as one of PC Magazine's "Top 25 Websites to Watch" in 2007.

Pearls

A few weeks and it will be Valentine's Day once again. Worried about what you want to get for your girlfriend or wife? How about giving them pearls?

A pearl is the oldest gemstone which is pretty much considered to be the most valuable. Unlike all other gems, the pearl is organic matter derived from a living creature - the oysters and mollusks.

How does an osyter make a pearl?

A grain of sand gets into an oyster's shell, which was to say under his skin, and it would irritate him. So the oyster would secrete something, squeeze out some essence of it's own self and coat the offending grain of sand with the essence, in order to stop the excruciating pain. Layer after layer of this mystical substance the oyster brought forth, until the grain of sand and the pain it had caused were not even a memory. The by product of the oyster's relief was the shimmering beauty of the pearl.

There is much folklore and tradition surrounding the Pearl. The pearl is the astral stone for the signs Gemini and Cancer. Pearls have also been called the 'teardrops of the moon' because of some mystical legend some people believe. Some even believe that pearls were formed by the passage of angels through the clouds of heaven.

During all these years of legends and traditions, the pearl has become the symbol of purity and innocence and it is often sewn into bridal gowns, or worn as jewelry by the bride.

Wouldn't it be lovely to see your lover wearing this symbol of purity and innocence?

And now, a site would bring you south sea pearls, from the Pearl Source.

They have Tahitian South Sea that originates from the Tahitian islands in the South Pacific, they have uniformed color necklace, multi colored necklaces and off round baroqued ones. They also have the Golden South Sea, White South Sea, and Freshwater Pearls.

Catching Up

It's so good to catch up with friends once in awhile. Everyone's so busy after graduation(and that includes me!), doing this and that and we rarely meet. But, I'm so glad we got to catch up with each other awhile ago.

We had our meeting for our yearbook. Our scheduled pictorial was in conflict with one of my mom's training, but I'll rig this one up.

We ate at Krua Thai because we were starving. We had a bit of trouble when it came down to ordering because we were used to single orders or rice meals but nevertheless we tried delicacies that looks yum. I thought Krua Thai's not that good because the one in SM was something I did not like, but this branch is YUM. But, what I like about the restaurant was the "Halo Halo". It's big and cheap - only 75 pesos. It has two ice cream scoops. Yay!

Flying this January

"January... I'd learn to fly."

I can't believe it. My days are not idle anymore. Everyday I have so much to-do's and so many things to follow-up on compared to last year.

They say if you want something to change you have to intend it. And so I did and days started to change dramatically.

I have sooo many ideas in my mind zipping and zapping, popping and cracking every second I want to burst! Okay, that's the first exaggeration I have this year. Muwahaha. But, really. I wanted soo much to accomplish a lot of things. I don't wanna be idle. I'm delegating stuffs I used to do to my brother and sister and in turn they can use the computer because of that.

My sister, Darlene is spending sooo much time in the P.C. whenever I am not around (which is basically most of the time) watching Asianovelas. I tease her about it. I'm not against it or anything I just tease her a lot. hehe. Anyway, since she's spending most of her time in front of the P.C., I decided to make a Multiply account for our own business. It's a business made for fun and another venue to meet more people and help them out.

I honestly don't want to join the Multiply bandwagon at first but then just to make her days in front of the P.C. worth it, I decided(with my sister's help of course) to set it up. There you have it - it's We Have It. Still trying to learn the craft over there. It's worth a try though.

I delegated my "burning business" to her as well.

I'm also meeting sooo much people this time. From stores to seminars. I am enjoying every second of it. Yes, I do get tired by the end of the day but the feeling of having accomplished something is worth it. Rather than sitting around the house like a potted plant or something.

My mom on the other hand is getting a lot of offers for her trainings. I'm her Talent Manager and Personal Assistant by the way and so if you want to have her in front of you, just contact me. I bought "guest books" for her trainings, so that we could monitor who attended her training and all that. So far, her trainings are free as of the moment but people are asking if they have to pay and my mom is considering for a paid seminar one of these days.

Aside from January being productive it is also an "EXPOSé month". Where people close to us are exposed and revealed in a good way and it is to help them.

So far, I'm enjoying flying with January. There are obstacles along the way, but I'm flying my way around it. It's like life is handing me lemons and then before throwing it back you suck as much vitamin C as you can. You have to take what is essential, learn from the lessons (Vitamin C) and don't dwell too much on the obstacle but the solution. :)

QOTD: We're switching to a more productive coffee-break paradigm.

A Jeepney Ride

Here in Davao we only have a few not-so-modern but one-of-a-kind and only-in-the-Pinas public transportation. We have the ever common Tricycles (trisekel), which are the means and ways for going around subdivisions & villages or getting inside a street.

We have the Habal2x(Big Bikes that can accomodate 4-5 people) which are used by students in UP Mindanao. We have the boat ride, which is basically used to commute from Davao to Samal Island and also the boat ride going across the Bankerohan River.

For the main highway we have the jeepneys, the non-air taxis (whose existence is is threatened) and the airconditioned taxis. We used to have buses but I guess the city decided not to have them. Buses are used only for out-of-town rides and not as a means to go around Davao City.

Usually, I ride jeepneys!

Choosing Jeepneys:

  • Basically, I enjoy my jeepney rides here in Davao. Specially, when it is a long ride. I'm a picky jeepney rider. I only ride empty jeepneys. (Here in Davao, you have the luxury to choose your rides, unless you are in a hurry) Maybe two or three more passengers would not hurt but more than six? Nuh-uh. I would not want to ride that. Sometimes, it would take me 15 minutes to look for the perfect ride. Nyahaha. Really. I'm that picky.
A bit of History:

Before when I was in first year high school and the "boom-boom jeepneys" or "uso-uso jeepneys" were a fad, I would ride them with my peers.

What are they? They are usually "lawin jeepneys" with "lower lower" sides (I don't know the car term for that). They have LOUD MUSIC playing either rock music or whatsoever they call "uso" that time (papa roach, linkin park, INOJ and other techno music). Each place(lanang, buhangin, bajada, sasa) have their own corresponding "uso-uso jeepney" with their own names. There is Amelyn, Quo Vadis, and uhmm I can't remember other jeepney names but I remember the black and green one with lower lower sides. Passengers would scream their name (and much to my chagrin I was one of them before) and hurry to rush inside and get a good seat. We'd rush beside ADDU because that's where they pick up passengers (and they usually get full right away). It's a rowdy, loud ride with dark, seedy, psychotic passengers. I got to experience that ride for half a year. Whew. And I'm glad I'm over that stage already.

When I lost my interest, they are slowly losing their touch and their "uso-ness". And just 3-4 years ago I think police are starting to confiscate their "stereos". I guess a lot of people are already complaining of the loud noise. So, now those "Uso-Uso jeepneys" are a myth and you'd prolly hear about them in stories only like what I am sharing to you.

Back to Choosing jeepneys:

  • I want to be at the butt of the jeepney and not at the other end. It's easier to go down that way.
  • I prefer multicabs over large lawin jeepneys.

During my jeepney rides, specially if it's windy and I can feel the cool air brushing my face and whipping my hair in different directions, that's where I get to think most. You know, suddenly a thought about certain this and that would pass and then you'd reflect the why's, who's, and what's.

I love to observe the people, laughing friends, cute babies, crying kids, nurses, moms, preggies, and the everyday-people. I eavesdrop with their conversations, laughing inside if they said something funny or muttering inside whenever they said something so off (which is rare).

A jeepney ride, is where you get to smile at strangers and laugh with them whenever something funny happened. Or be mad together with them and gang on a jeepney driver or conductor.

Why talk about jeepneys now?

Well, I just want to share my jeepney rides with you and how much fun a jeepney ride in Davao can be.

Roma

As most of you are aware our Mediterranean Cruise was canceled. One thing that thrilled me about the said trip was our supposed to be stop-over in Rome for 5 days after the said cruise. Anyway, they rescheduled the trip early this year, I am not sure when and where but one of the possible places that we would visit would be Rome.

Speaking of Rome and if you have plans visiting Rome I know of a couple name Mauro and Paula in this internet world who can help you with your tour and stay and also your Rome accommodation. You can consult to them about leisure travel in Italy since they live there and even better if it's about Rome since they reside there. So they actually know what they are talking about. You can be assured that those hotels they refer to you are of you quality. They've been to all of them and they know what's best and what would fit the accommodation you envision. The hotels on their list are all set in the very heart of their ancient historical centre. You can search hotels by their rating whether they are a 5 star hotel or lower. If you also want it on a specific location, it's indicated as well. Try them and they will find the perfect hotel that would suit you. Also feel free to browse their website for more info - > Rome Hotels.

They also have a page for car transfers if you want one at your own convenience.

You can refer to them if you want to stay on some of Rome apartments too.

Car Covers

Product Review:

A precious car needs a car covers. The importance of a car cover is to protect your car from the sunlight, dust, snow and rainfall. And if ever you decide to buy a car cover make sure it's the best!

I found a website called Car Cover World which is a leading worldwide supplier of Car Covers with superior quality. What's good about them is that they give honor and discounts to where they are due. They give out 5 (five) percent discount to active duty military personnel since they appreciate the hard work their servicemen and women provide. They also donate $3 to feed the poor and hungry which is a very great cause (and I support and admire them for this, not a lot would do this only a few).

I like to buy from a company whose goal I can relate to and whose goal that gives service to their customers.

They also have available custom-fit for a car, truck, SUV or even for motorcycles. The said company is a member of SEMA (The Specialty Equipment Market Association).

Aside from car covers they have seat covers, car cover accessories (you can choose to have your car cover embroidered), UV Heatshield, Front-end masks, Quality Truck parts and accessories, and more.

Magic 08

Happy New Year Everyone!

I would like to thank everyone who "decided" to be with me for the past few years. Thank you for sharing a part of you to ME and that includes each and everyone of you - reader or not, offline or online.

This year...

I choose to stop and smell the coffee..
I choose to step out and feel the sunshine...
I choose to celebrate MOMENTS....
I choose to celebrate LIFE...

I choose to find time to DREAM more...
I choose to DEDICATE every moment for my Purpose.
I choose to respond and not to react to any circumstance....
I choose to LIVE LARGE and WORRY SMALL.

I choose to give myself a break....
I choose to celebrate JOY and PEACE....
I choose to build my own rainbow....
I choose to adorn my life with LAUGHTER...

I choose to believe in MIRACLES and even to MAKE THEM HAPPEN....

This year..... I Choose to CELEBRATE ME!

They're supposed to be "I WILL" but it is sooo FUTURE TENSE. I want to do them NOW!

but then... those choices are a step-by-step process.. but right now I am feeling them..even if it's not around. :)

Once again... thank you for sharing me your journey, and for taking time to let me share to you MINE =)

Have a magical new year! :)

Pahabol:

Thank you to Pretty Life Online for regarding my blog as a TREASURE. (what a way to start a new year and my first post in 08).

Each and everyone of YOU is a TREASURE in your own special way but I'd like to give this "You are a Treasure" award to 8 blogs for the year 2008 as a good start:

They are all a TREASURE in their blogs and in REAL LIFE. (eventhough I haven't met most of them pa.)

to the 8 Treasures....

Arianne, Sis Ychel, Bam, Ate Mari, Fruity Oaty, Kuya Angelo, Quincy, and Donya Quixote.

Continue to live life from the INSIDE OUT because that's where the REAL TREASURE can be found.
